Small Talk: Local and regional matters
Alex Hillman
Thanks for all the love on this new newsletter format we shared last week. So glad that it landed as intended, and we’ll keep it going!
In the meantime, WHOOSH what a week it’s been!
Here’s what made us want to share a high five:
1. A Win for Democracy 🗳️
We’re celebrating several important and impactful election wins, both here in Pennsylvania and across the country this week. If you voted, thank you for participating in our democracy. Local and regional matters.
2. Indy Small Celebrates a Birthday
Longtime member Neil Bardhan shared that his daughter’s 1-year birthday was this week. Happy birthday to Marigold!
3. Evening Coworking Kickoff! 🌙
One of our most common requests has been evening coworking sessions, and our first evening coworking session with a focus on Civic Tech projects was a hit this past Wednesday with vibrant conversation and lots of ideas exchanged. Thank you to Michael Yee for helping us kick this off!
We’ll be back with another evening Civic Tech coworking session on Wednesday, November 19th, alongside Sarah Mack’s Native Plant Prep Party.
4. Community Care 💛
Whether it’s tough stuff at work or home, or the world happening around us, people are going through it and doing that alone is 10x harder.
This week we saw multiple instances of members stepping in to listen and offer support to each other.
Like we always say: people don’t care about the stuff they share unless they care about the people they share it with.
5. From Ideas to Action 🚀
This week we worked with multiple members on a range of new initiatives they’re excited about, ranging from improving our online community tools to new ideas for extending our Indy Helpers program to include more people.
Many of the best parts of Indy Hall have grown out of ideas like this turning into real action, so reach out if you’d like to be a part of the early planning and we’ll keep you in the loop!
