10 ideas from 'The First Ten' that still define everything we do 20 years later

Okay so I have a confession.

When I re-released The First Ten last week, I did not expect anybody to listen to all 11 hours of the audiobook. Though if you did, please reply!

The truth is that I’ve been listening to them for you, in preparation for this new Campfire Stories series. Don’t worry, as a rule I don’t assign homework that I wouldn’t do myself.

As I relistened to the entire series, I’ve found 10 key ideas that not only kept repeating within our first year, but throughout every year since.

More than just a fun origin story, it’s our founding principles in action.

  1. Community Before Space
  2. Patience as Strategy
  3. Sovereignty & Independence
  4. Culture Over Growth
  5. Letting vs. Making Things Happen
  6. Philadelphia Pride & Place-Based Identity
  7. Resilience Through Crisis
  8. Contribution Over Extraction
  9. Trust & Familiarity at Scale
  10. Isolation is the Enemy

Consider this list your cheat sheet for the next 12 months as we explore our Campfire Stories, and a bit of foreshadowing for the kinds of emails and stories to come.

For today I wanna know…which of these 10 themes do you connect most with, and why? Could be one, could be more than one!

Do any of them make you think of a Campfire Story of your own?

Whether you’re a member, a friend, or a curious observer, drop us a line and share the ones you’re most interested in hearing more about!
