This Week's Hi-5:
When Things Go Sideways

Happy Friday, y’all.

You could say that this was one of those weeks where things didn’t always go according to plan. But honestly, sometimes those setbacks are exactly when the most rewarding stuff happens.

Here’s 5 quick things that made us wanna share a high five:

1. When the Plan Falls Apart (In the Best Way)

When the Cursor Philly meetup had a speaker cancel at the last minute this week, the organizer did what any great host does — he improvised.

Instead of scrambling for a replacement, Luis leaned into the freeform energy and gave people more time to do what they love: talk shop, share what they’re working on, and actually connect.

Turns out, sometimes the best “programming” is no programming at all (pun very much intended).

2. Amanda’s Search & Rescue Win

Amanda's mentee starting a campfire

One of my favorite things about the Indy Hall community is learning about the lives our members lead outside of work. Sometimes, that’s literally outside, like Amanda who often updates us on her Search and Rescue work in the Pacific Northwest.

This week, Amanda shared how proud she was of her newest mentee successfully starting a campfire during some truly terrible weather.

I’d say that’s a moment worth celebrating. 🔥🪵

3. The Water Cooler Saga (cont’d)

The relationship we have with our water cooler is… complicated.

On one hand, instant access to cold, hot, and even sparkling water has been an incredible quality of life upgrade at the clubhouse. On the other hand, we’ve had every kind of issue imaginable with the unit.

As of today, we’re back in action with a brand new replacement, and we’re cautiously optimistic this is the end of the saga. Please cross your fingers for us (and don’t forget to hydrate yourself).

4. Jury Duty: A Philly Rite of Passage

A truly delightful thread popped up in our community Discord this week: the equally helpful and hilarious discussion of members swapping jury duty tips and stories.

It’s the kind of uniquely Philly conversation that makes my day — and a reminder that coworking communities are about so much more than just work.

5. Thankful for a Little Extra Help This Weekend

While Adam has other commitments and I’m out of town this weekend, this weekend’s activities and events are happening thanks to the hands of a number of members who’ve volunteered to pitch in.

Special thanks to Chris Alfano, Mike Juliano, and Chris Carter for holding it down. And yes, we’re aware that’s a lot of Chrises for one sentence. Swear there are other names around here.
